The characteristics of women's clothing during the Ming and Qing Dynasties are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Colorful. The costumes of the Ming Dynasty were brightly colored, with common colors including red, yellow, blue, green, purple, etc., reflecting the aesthetic taste of society at that time.
Various styles. Women's clothing styles in the Ming Dynasty were diverse, including straight skirts, trailing skirts, Bijia (large vests), collared collars or straight collars with double lapels, etc. These garments vary in length, sleeves, collar type, etc., adapting to the needs of various social and daily activities.
Finely decorated. Women's clothing in the Ming Dynasty was very particular about details, such as the use of small round collars, buttons on the neck, and gold and jade pendants. In addition, the clothing is often decorated with pearls, jade and gold foil, showing the luxury of women.
Clear hierarchy. the early Ming Dynasty, the government had relatively strict restrictions on the level of clothing, and ordinary people were not allowed to use gold jewelry. But by the late Ming Dynasty, clothing tended to be extravagant, and the differences in clothing between women of different social classes gradually narrowed.
The popularity of flag clothing. In the early Qing Dynasty, the clothing style of Manchu women gradually became a model for the court and upper class society. Among them, the flag dress is famous for its tight-fitting long skirt, which reflects the influence of Manchu clothing on Han women's clothing.
